Program Notes

In 1996, at the instigation of Nan Gullo, a harpist teaching in the "Community Education Division" of the Eastman School of Music, I adapted for harp movements of piano pieces I wrote as a composition student in 1962-63. The titles of the three resulting harp solos reflect their clearly articulated modal tonality and form. In addition, each sonata makes reference to various forms of non-Western music, perhaps most noticeably, classical music of the mid-East and India.
