Program Notes

Lyra was written in the winter of 2004 for Hannah Lash, composer and harpist. It starts out in a leisurely way, stopping here and there, eventually accumulating energy until it concludes with a decided, yet relaxed, gait.

Despite the emphasis upon harmonic color and polyrhythm, Lyra is a strict six-part canon, in which each of the fifty hexachordal harmonies makes a unique appearance.
